Die Ausstellung der lothringer13/halle zeigt in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie und der Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe verschiedene künstlerische Projekte im Grenzbereich zu den Naturwissenschaften. In unserer hochtechnologisierten Welt erlangt die schnittstelle zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft eine neue Bedeutung: So nutzen die hier gezeigten Positionen aktuelle naturwissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse für einen interdisziplinären Dialog mit der bildenden Kunst. Die multimedialen Arbeiten greifen beispielsweise in die Bereiche der Gen- bzw. Biotechnologie oder Physik über und werden als Echtzeit 3D-Simulationen, inmteraktive Versuchsanordnungen, Foto- oder Video-Installationen visualisiert bzw. akustisch vernehmbar.

The lonely sound of satellites, Nobel-prize winner Richard Kuhn‘s lecture The Role of Imagination in the Sciences, field
recordings from a congress of ufologists, are the main sonic ingredients of this installation. It includes also visual materials like a small toy-ufo, moving desperately in a display, sf-magazines, record covers and slides

All pictures refer to each other, either glancing at each other (the look of Kuhn from the record cover meets the eye of a science fiction hero across the room) or through a reference in time (the real russian astronauts resembling the imagined ones on a science fiction magazine cover). Imagination meets reality, disturbing and complementing each other.

The visitor is enlightened by sitting under a lamp, the bulb replaced by a small loudspeaker, listening to the speech of Richard Kuhn, where he compares the imaginative powers of the scientist to those of cooks and thieves, while across the room ufologists debate emphatically about their latest insights.

The chirping and buzzing of satellite sounds permeates the space, coming from speakers floating in the air, roughly resembling the shape of your average ufo. Strangely enough, these ‚space-sounds‘ are recognised instantly as such, transporting almost human feelings, evoking loneliness and far away places.

While entering the room one is greeted by a short sound-loop, a clip from a 1950s ‚schlager‘, where for the first time the 'time-space continuum' is referred to in popular song: our love is greater than space and time ...

Vom Ufologenkongress bis zum voll elektronischen Riech-Automaten: »Fiction & Science« in der lothringer13

Der Orbit ist voller Geräusche: Gefiepe, Gezirpe und Wortfetzen aus Millionen Gesprächen, die via Satellit übertragen werden. Der Münchner Komponist und DJ Kalle Laar (Klangmuseum im Lenbachhaus) hat sie mit O-Tönen eines Ufologenkongresses und dem Vortrag des Biochemikers Richard Kuhn über die Rolle der Fantasie in der Wissenschaft gemixt. Seine Soundinstallation "There is no Sound in Space" ist Teil der Schau "Fiction & Science", die im Rahmen der Frühjahrsbuchwoche in der Galerie lothringer13 gezeigt wird ... Roberta De Righi
